Management & Executive Coaching

Personal coaching is one of the fastest growing areas of business consultancy services: for example all of the FTSE Top 100 organisations make use of coaching input to support the development of their leaders and managers. 6S Consulting can bring top-level coaching experience and expertise to bear on your organisation, no matter what the size. We have coaches available to suit a variety of personal styles, sectors and needs, from business performance to life coaching, preparation for promotion through to retirement coaching.

What is Coaching?

In essence, the process of coaching can be described as helping others to learn and achieve. The emphasis here is very much upon the person being coached: the aim is to help them to bring to bear their full experience and abilities to address whatever challenges they face. Whether this is overcoming a known performance issue or reviewing and planning for the future, it is our philosophy that the person should be at the forefront of the activity, not the coach or the process. To this end we like to call our approach 'Person-Centred Coaching'.

A key role of the coach is to help challenge the underlying assumptions that we bring to bear on our lives, our challenges and our future. Very often we constrain ourselves by taking a narrow or restricted view of the possibilities, or refer only to our own limited experiences when framing our approach to a problem. The coach is there to help us widen our perspective; to think outside of our normal everyday constraints and expand our perception of what is possible. Very often the result is a fundamental shift in approach, or a revelation: for many a journey of self-discovery which unlocks unknown potential and removes internal performance barriers.

What is Involved?

The coach will help you achieve these benefits primarily through discussion and questioning. Asking the right questions, and unpacking your responses, is a very powerful tool. But there are others: your coach will also be an accomplished listener and will have a great empathy for the challenges you wish to overcome. By combining questioning, listening and empathy, the coach will help you to unlock the answers and develop both a plan and a practical approach to take you forward. Our coaches also have rich experience of business, life and success on which to draw.

You may also find that your coach asks you to complete some written exercises: these might include our wheel of life, some epitaph statements, a personal learning review or a list of your achievements. Specialist coaching for managers and executives may include use of management competences, team roles assessment, or any number of items from our extensive bank of helpful tools to suit your needs.

What Do I Need to Do?

The person being coached must undertake to be honest, reflective and above all motivated to address any issues which arise. If you are seeking coaching to address a specific concern, then much of this will already be in place. If you would like the input of a coach for other reasons, your coach will help you specify exactly what it is you seek to gain, and ensure that you are committed to doing this. In most cases, your coach will also give you specific exercises and thinking patterns to practice: you must do this with dedication, as there is little gain without effort.
